The first step in that process is your free initial consultation in our Mobile office or virtually without leaving your home. This is one of the most important appointments you’ll have with us, and we want to ensure it’s a stress-free experience for you. What happens at an orthodontic evaluation?
Getting a good look at your mouth will help us better understand your specific needs to recommend the best treatment for your smile! You can expect this appointment to last from 45 minutes to an hour—this gives us plenty of time to get to know each other, answer your questions, and gather all the information we need. The timing associated with orthodontic treatment is very important. You may or may not be ready for treatment, and the only way we can determine this is by examining your teeth and bite.
During your consultation, Dr. Bennett will evaluate your dental and orthodontic health and discuss the best treatment options for your smile and the most optimal time to begin. He’ll consider your concerns, lifestyle, and goals, along with your dental development and oral hygiene. These factors help us create a customized treatment plan that will give you a perfect smile for your face!
If you’re not ready to begin treatment, we’ll invite you to come back every 6-12 months so we can reevaluate your situation. If you are ready to start immediately, we’ll take diagnostic records of digital study models, diagnostic photographs, and orthodontic radiographs X-rays.
These allow us to get a good look at what’s happening underneath the gums, including the position and growth of the bones and joints. We’ll also be able to see any teeth still below the gum line to guide your treatment better. This information, along with your exam, will help determine the best plan for you!
At every point, your comfort is our top concern! We want you to have all the information you need to feel comfortable with the treatment process, and we’ll make every effort to answer all the questions you may have at your initial visit.
What comes next?
Once you’ve decided on a treatment option with Dr. Bennett, you’ll be scheduled for an appointment to place your braces or fit you for your first clear aligner. This usually takes about an hour, and you’ll receive your orthodontic care kit to use during treatment. We do everything we can to make this appointment as comfortable as possible for you, and you’ll have access to our team throughout if you have any questions or concerns.
Regular visits are an important part of the orthodontic process. Depending on your treatment plan, you’ll be scheduled to see Dr. Bennett every 6-8 weeks or so. We’ll check that everything is progressing as it should be and adjust your appliance if needed during these appointments. If you’re wearing braces, Dr. Bennett may choose to change the wire at this time as well.
We do our best to make sure appointments are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but we know that things can come up where you’re running late or can’t make your appointment. If this does happen, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible to reschedule it for you! You should continue following Dr. Bennett’s instructions, eating well, and practicing good oral hygiene between appointments.
